Drew A. Stein, MD

Dr. Stein treats all types of orthopedic injuries with a specialty in sports medicine. Sports medicine injuries include: shoulder dislocations, shoulder separations, shoulder instability, shoulder rotator cuff tears, knee ligament or cartilage tears, knee osteochondral defects, and ankle ligament injuries. He specializes in arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, knee, elbow, and ankle. This includes arthroscopic shoulder rotator cuff repairs and shoulder stabilization procedures. Knee expertise includes arthroscopic ligament reconstructions and cartilage replacement procedures such as osteochondral autologous transfer surgery and autologous cartilage regeneration.


Dr. Stein is on the teaching faculty at NYU Langone Medical Center as an assistant clinical professor and teaches residents in the operating room. He also is on the assistant faculty for national education for the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA) and assists in teaching surgical skills to residents from around the country. He is on national committees for the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA) including the compliance committee and the membership committee. Dr. Stein is also involved in industry consulting to assist companies with development of specific surgical equipment prior to public release. This involves working with industry engineers and cadaver surgery to improve operating room equipment designs for orthopedic sports medicine surgeons.


Dr. Stein completed his undergraduate training at Boston University where he graduated with honors studying physical therapy. He then received his medical degree from University of Pittsburgh graduating with honors in the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. He completed an internal medicine internship at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City and a general surgery internship at New York University Medical Center. Dr. Stein completed his orthopedic residency training at the Hospital for Joint Diseases in New York City. While at the Hospital for Joint Diseases, he was honored with chief resident responsibilities for the residency program. Dr. Stein then completed a fellowship in sports medicine at the University of Pennsylvania with mentors including: Dr. Arthur Bartolozzi, Dr. Craig Morgan, and Dr. Brian Sennett.

During his fellowship, Dr. Stein participated in sports medicine care with several professional sports teams including: Philadelphia Eagles, Philadelphia Flyers, and Philadelphia Kixx. Dr. Stein was the in-house team physician at the 2001 and 2002 summer training camps for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Dr. Stein wishes to provide the highest quality orthopedic care to the community. This includes all aspects of patient care with an emphasis on patient education and rehabilitative treatments. He will be involved in community athletics including: high school athletics, recreational teams, and semi-professional organizations.
